One of the primary contributors to minimal green space availability, traffic congestion, carbon emissions and roadway safety risk is the volume of personal vehicles our roads providing access to, from, and within academic, business, and medical campuses across the U.S. 

Many of these trips are unnecessary. In fact, more than half of one-way household trips are less than six miles, and more than half of all vehicle accidents occur within five miles of home.

Organizations are looking for solutions, including how to repurpose parking infrastructure to improve aesthetics and generate more community value. Parking surfaces currently consume more than 5 percent of all urban land in the United States. 

  Making mobility easy, convenient and safe through shared, electric, connected transportation and reducing the number of unnecessary personal vehicle trips and parking surfaces is a key goal of next-generation autonomous platforms.
